Outdoor activities with local families in Edinburgh to help them become more aware of their local environment
ELGT are working with Groundwork UK to deliver the “Wellies in The Woods” outdoor family programme which has been funded by Miller Homes. The programme aims to inspire families with young children to explore and learn about their local woodlands. We will be working with local early years centres and organisations that support families in areas of disadvantage. To find our more about the UK wide programme see here
The programme was launched in January 2026 with a team of volunteers from Miller Homes who helped create the outdoor classroom site at Craigmillar Castle Park.
We’re proud to be launching our charity partnership with Groundwork and to be doing so in such a hands-on way. Creating this outdoor classroom at Craigmillar Castle Park will make a real impact, helping more children and families benefit from outdoor learning through the Wellies in the Woods programme.Regional managing director for Miller Homes Scotland East, Gary Heaney

- Deliver 3 programmes of 8 sessions in Craigmillar, The Inch and Pilton
Outcomes:
- Inspire families to engage with local woodlands
- Encourage young children (under 5s) to learn about nature through play and storytelling
- Increase the confidence of parents to visit local greenspaces with their children
