Drumshoreland Nature Restoration
Drumshoreland Nature Restoration
Greenspace improvements to help mitigate against climate change and biodiversity loss
Following an ecological survey, a site at Drumshoreland in Uphall was identified as a site to restore ponds to help create a habitat for the rare Great Crested Newt.
ELGT facilitated contractors to build 5 new ponds which were 8m, 12m, 15m, 18m and 20m in diameter.
ELGT organised volunteers from the local community and pupils from Pumpherston & Uphall Station Primary School to help with the planting of the new ponds. This involved 200 pond plants including Marsh Cinquefoil, water mint, water forget-me-not and meadowsweet. A total of 60 trees including Hawthorn, Goat Willow & Common Alder saplings were also planted.
