One of our previous communications volunteers has added a testimony about what it’s like to volunteer with ELGT:
“I’ve been volunteering at ELGT for the past 6 months and have thoroughly enjoyed working with the dedicated and passionate staff at ELGT. They work tirelessly to provide the best possible services for a variety of service users (from refugees, people in care homes to users of local community centres and schools groups) and they are also deliver some of the most exciting and innovative greenspace projects imaginable. Everything from play parks to new walking trails and wholescale development plans, making Edinburgh greener, happier and more inclusive. It’s an exciting time to be part of the ELGT team, I’ve had a chance to film events and post content on their social media channels, interviewing MSPs and Councillors and have learnt a lot about their fantastic, wild and wonderful projects by going along, seeing them in action and getting stuck in. I’ve learned about communication plans and strategies and played an important role in the Christmas Tree Time marketing campaign, writing about projects in the newsletter as well as articles for magazines. The chance to volunteer at ELGT means you can play an active part in the story of changing Edinburgh for the better, making it greener and happier.
I’ve certainly enjoyed working on a variety of projects and have gained excellent experience in the process. If you want to take your skills to the next level you have to be active and involved and the opportunities you can gain by volunteering at ELGT will give you a platform to succeed. It’s up to you what you get out of it, but there’s plenty to get stuck into and if your willing to help out you can learn a lot and have a lot of fun times. The team are a joy to work with and by getting involved you could help make a difference too.”
Feel free to join our mailing list for our community events and you are welcome to come and join activities throughout Edinburgh. Please contact info@elgt.org.uk to be added to the mailing list, or follow us on Facebook or Twitter.
Doing voluntary work not only makes the individual feel good but can raise the happiness levels of a whole community
