Saughton Play Park

Saughton Park play area, a formally run down space, has been transformed as a result of funding by the City of Edinburgh Council’s Parks and Greenspace department, WREN and Biffaward. Managed by ELGT, this space now offers stimulating play with the installation of new equipment which includes, an improved “sand works” play area for very young children, an adventure trail, a cableway, a climbing whirl netted roundabout, new swings and a basket swing.

It was designed by the Council’s Parks & Greenspace after consultation with the local community, including local primary schools, a residents’ association, the Community Council and Neighbourhood Partnership.

This recreational area specifically aims to accommodate younger park users, to provide them with increased opportunities for outdoor play, and to have a resulting positive impact on health and wellbeing through increased activity levels.

Saughton Park is a popular greenspace with extensive playing fields, a beautiful ornamental walled garden, winter gardens and the recently installed skate park. The development of this play area provides a new and improved facility to complement the Park’s other features, meaning that Saughton Park has something for everyone, keeping all ages entertained.
