West Pilton Park is undergoing an exciting, new development after receiving a commitment of significant charitable funding.

West Pilton Park is undergoing an exciting, new development after receiving a significant amount of charitable funding. The Edinburgh and Lothians Greenspace Trust in partnership with City of Edinburgh Council would like to share with you the latest design proposals, to raise awareness of the development and build enthusiasm for the new park plan. The aim is to make West Pilton Park the beautiful, bustling centre of a thriving neighbourhood community.

Dates for your diary

Saturday 11th May 2024 – ELGT will be at North Edinburgh Community Festival  please drop-in to hear more about ways you may want to get involved in the park as it develops.

The latest design proposals include:

  • Improved play and activity features for all ages including a climbing boulder, a small skate space, basketball hoops, informal play, a slide and other traditional and natural play features.

  • A new wetland feature – a seasonally wet attenuation feature is proposed to improve the usability of the park during wet weather as well as create an exciting new central place for wildlife, walking and sitting.

  • New and improved paths and access throughout the park including an accessible ramp down from the main path to the lower area.

  • Upgraded steps with handrails
  • Additional benches, lighting and water bottle filling points

  • Enhancements to the wooded areas with plans for the trees and undergrowth to be fully managed and new all bound gravel paths allowing access through them.

  • Exciting and original planting proposals throughout the park

  • A dog play park to allow dog owners a choice if they wish to exercise their pets within a dedicated dog play area that is also welcome to all people

  • A Community growing space with raised planting beds that can be used for community growing projects or for City of Edinburgh Allotments

  • Resurfacing of The Foot
  • Additional play mounds and earthworks.

  • New signage and entrance features
  • Potential café facility/kiosk with integrated toilets
  • Potential locations for bespoke shelters
