Inflating the Innertube
Latest News: Volunteer for the Innertube!
We are recruiting volunteer 'ambassadors' to help promote Edinburgh's amazing network of paths accross the city. Click here for more information and how to apply.
The Bike Station and ELGT were recently awarded funding by the People’s Postcode Lottery Dream Fund, to utilise a London Underground-style map of the 70 miles of off-street cycle ways and paths in the City of Edinburgh.
This network of paths reaches right into the city centre and the project will aim to promote and improve the routes, to help increase the number of people walking and cycling for commuting and recreation.
‘Inflating the Inner Tube’ will:
- Carry out improvements to Edinburgh's extensive off-road network of paths and cycle routes
- Provide volunteering opportunities for the public
- Create a multimedia, user-generated online map will be developed for journey planning and for appreciating the scale of the network.
- Conserve and rejuvenate pathways
- Develop a visible and intuitive signage system.

Download the map as a PDF or pick up a copy at the Edinburgh Bike Station. For bulk supplies, please get in touch with the Edinburgh Bike Station.
So what's next?
Over the next 9 months, ELGT will be delivering a programme of activities along the route, designed to raise awareness of this fantastic resource and to help improve the network for all users, including walkers and cyclists, as well as the local wildlife. Activities will include conservation opportunities, environmental education, and guided walks to explore the local habitats and biodiversity along the routes.
